UV wall printing puts the ink on the wall itself. A vertical printer is positioned against the surface, the print head passes across it, and ultraviolet lamps cure each pass instantly as it is laid down. There is no paper, no vinyl, no adhesive and no substrate between your image and the plaster. What you are left with is a photographic image that is physically part of the wall rather than something stuck to the front of it.

Because the ink cures on contact, the wall is finished the moment the machine stops. There is no solvent evaporation period, no overnight ventilation and no tacky surface waiting to be knocked. Offices reopen the same afternoon, classrooms are back in use the next morning, and retail floors do not lose a trading day to a wall covering that has to settle.

Our machine prints up to 4 metres high and unlimited in length, which is the practical difference between wall printing and wallpaper. A 12-metre corridor is one continuous artwork rather than nine panels that have to be hung, matched and trimmed. Nothing lines up slightly wrong at eye level, because there is no line.

The inks are Nazdar 270 series, GREENGUARD Gold certified for indoor air quality. That certification matters in schools, nurseries, hospitals, care homes and offices where the people using the room are back in it immediately. Once cured, the surface is washable and scratch resistant, and holds up for roughly 10 years indoors or 5 years outdoors.

A blank or tired wall is not neutral. In a reception, it is the first thing a client reads about how you run your business, and they read it before anyone has spoken to them. In a shop or restaurant, it is the difference between a space people photograph and a space they walk through. The wall is already communicating something: the only question is whether you chose the message.

Vinyl and wallpaper make it worse over time rather than better. Adhesive fails at the top of high walls where heat collects, edges lift in corridors where people brush past them, and seams open up as the building moves and the heating cycles. Each of those failures reads as neglect, and each one arrives eighteen months after you paid for the job rather than in the first week when you could still complain about it.

Then there is the removal cost nobody budgets for. Stripping failed vinyl usually takes plaster with it, which means filling, sanding, sealing and repainting before you can even start the replacement. The second wall covering costs more than the first because you are paying to undo the first one. Direct-to-wall printing removes that cycle entirely: when you want a change, the wall is simply painted over and reprinted.

Common mistakes we are called in to fix

• Buying on price per square metre alone

  The cheap quote is almost always thin vinyl on an unprepared wall. It looks identical on day one and completely different in year two, and the cost of stripping it wipes out the saving.

• Supplying a low-resolution image

  A file that looks sharp on a laptop can be printed at 4 metres and show every pixel. We check resolution against true wall size before proofing, and tell you honestly when a file will not carry.

• Ignoring the state of the wall

  Damp, chalky emulsion, flaking paint and heavy texture all affect adhesion and finish. Printing over an unresolved problem locks that problem in behind the artwork.

• Leaving no time for proofing

  Approving artwork in a rush is how the wrong brand colour, a cropped logo or a typo ends up 3 metres tall. Our to-scale proof stage exists so that never happens on site.

The printing system is a vertically tracked UV machine that references the wall surface directly. It is levelled against the wall, calibrated for distance, and then prints in passes while ultraviolet lamps mounted alongside the head cure the ink immediately behind it. Because curing is photochemical rather than evaporative, the ink does not soak, spread or shift after it lands, which is what keeps fine detail and small text crisp at large scale.

Ink is the Nazdar 270 series, a UV-curable formulation certified to GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions. In practice that means no solvent smell during printing and no ventilation period afterwards. On a live site with people working, learning or receiving treatment nearby, that certification is often the deciding factor rather than a nice-to-have.

Surface matters more than most people expect. Smooth, sound, matt-painted plasterboard and skimmed plaster give the cleanest result. Lightly textured surfaces, breeze block, brick and render can all be printed, but texture becomes part of the image, so we discuss the effect at survey stage and show you what to expect. Gloss, silk and heavily contaminated surfaces need preparation first; that is exactly what the free site visit establishes.

Scale and layout are planned before we arrive. Sight lines, door openings, sockets, radiators and skirting are all mapped so key elements of the artwork are not lost behind furniture or interrupted at head height. On long corridors we plan where the eye lands first and position the focal point accordingly, rather than simply starting at the left-hand wall.

How much does UV wall printing cost?

Every wall is priced individually because area, height, surface condition, access and artwork complexity all change the job. That is why the site visit and quote are free; you get a fixed figure for your actual wall rather than a per-square-metre guess that moves once we arrive.

How long does a wall take to print?

Most single walls are surveyed, printed and handed back within a day. The print itself is continuous and the ink cures instantly, so the largest variable is surface preparation rather than printing time.

Absolutely. Send your file and we will check resolution against the true wall size, prepare it and issue a to-scale proof. If the file will not carry at wall scale we will tell you before you commit, and our design service can rebuild or upscale it.

Do you provide RAMS and insurance documents?

Yes. RAMS are supplied per job, we carry public liability insurance, we are CHAS accredited and DBS checked, and we will send documentation to your facilities or site team ahead of the visit.
