Sustainability is one of the two reasons this business exists in the form it does. Not as a slogan on a footer, but as a measurable difference in what gets used, what gets thrown away and what your building is exposed to while the work happens.

Eight things a wall print never generates
A vinyl graphic arrives as a manufactured plastic product wrapped in more plastic, is trimmed on site, and is eventually stripped off and skipped. Direct-to-wall printing deletes that entire material chain.

Certified ink
GREENGUARD Gold certified Nazdar 270 Series UV-LED ink
GREENGUARD Gold is an independent certification for low chemical emissions. It is the standard specified for products used in sensitive indoor environments: hospitals, schools, care homes, offices and public buildings, where the people in the room cannot simply be asked to leave for a few days.
In practice that means no lingering solvent smell and no need to vacate the space afterwards. Combined with instant UV-LED curing, the wall is touch-dry the moment it is printed, so the room goes back into service immediately rather than after a ventilation period.
There is a secondary, practical benefit too: the certified formulation protects the Epson i3200 printheads from pigment build-up and clogging, extending the working life of the hardware. Cleaner ink means fewer consumables and a more reliable machine.

Vertical wall printers draw remarkably little power. These figures are based on the published specifications for the DX Onjet and comparable vertical wall printers, at the three print qualities we work at.

Sustainability in practice
Printing inside a live healthcare environment
Healthcare is the clearest test of a low-emission claim. A hospital waiting room cannot be closed for days while adhesive fumes disperse, and a ward cannot tolerate a solvent smell at all. This is exactly the environment GREENGUARD Gold certification exists for.
The footage shows a calming nature mural going straight onto a waiting room wall. No vinyl rolls, no paste, no trimming waste, no skip outside. The ink cures instantly, so the space is back in use as soon as we pack the printer away.

End of life
The waste vinyl creates on the way out
Most environmental comparisons stop at installation. But a vinyl graphic generates a second wave of waste years later: the film is stripped, the adhesive residue is cleaned off, damaged plaster is repaired, holes from mounted signage are filled, and all of it is skipped.
A wall print has no removal stage. When your branding changes or the campaign ends, you print a fresh design directly over the existing artwork, or paint over it with standard interior emulsion. No costly removal process, no replastering and no lengthy downtime, just a quick, clean transition to the next design.

Sustainable wall graphics, answered
What makes direct-to-wall printing more sustainable than vinyl?
Traditional wall graphics rely on plastic-based vinyl, backing paper, adhesives, protective films and packaging that all eventually become waste. Direct-to-wall printing eliminates those materials completely; there is no plastic wallpaper, no adhesive, no backing paper and nothing unnecessary sent to landfill. The only material that leaves your site is our equipment.
What ink do you use, and is it certified?
We print with Nazdar 270 Series GREENGUARD Gold certified UV-LED inkjet ink. GREENGUARD Gold is an independent low chemical emissions certification, which is what makes the ink appropriate for sensitive indoor environments such as hospitals, schools, care homes, offices and public buildings.
Is it safe to print in an occupied building?
Yes. The low-emission certified ink means there is no lingering solvent smell, and the UV-LED lamps cure the ink instantly as it prints, so there is no off-gassing drying period. Most sites, including wards, classrooms and open-plan offices, remain open and operating while we work.
How much energy does printing a wall use?
Very little. Power draw during printing is roughly 150–200W, and a realistic average for a standard commercial mural is about 0.06 kWh per square metre printed. Draft quality is lower still at 0.02–0.03 kWh/m², and high-quality output rises to around 0.10–0.13 kWh/m².
How does that affect our carbon reporting?
Because the electricity use is so low, the Scope 2 operational footprint of a wall print is very small, and smaller still if the site runs on a renewable electricity tariff. There is also no manufactured substrate shipped in rolls, so the upstream supply chain behind the graphic is much shorter than a vinyl equivalent.
What happens to the artwork at the end of its life?
Nothing is removed, because there is nothing applied to remove. You print a new design straight over the old one, or paint over it with standard interior emulsion. There is no peeling, no adhesive residue, no damaged plaster and no holes left by mounted signage, so no strip-out waste and no making good.
Does the certified ink have any other benefits?
It does. The certified formulation also protects the Epson i3200 printheads from pigment build-up and clogging, which extends the working life of the hardware. That is a reliability and quality benefit that sits alongside the environmental one.
